Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Command is poised to ensure free-flow of vehicular movements to the strategic areas in the state during the Christmas season.
The State Commander, Mr Andrew Kumapayi told the news reporters that the command had earlier started Ember month campaigns to create awareness on dangers on the roads during the season, Anambra state government reports.
He said the safety campaigns started on Sept. 2 till Dec. 18 for proper dissemination of safety information.
The Commander noted “This is a period characterized by high volume of vehicular movements. Many people are also trying to make ends meet.
“Because of this, our men have been on the ground 24 hours, preaching the gospel of safety in public places.
“We are going to motor parks, Churches and other public places on daily basis to sensitise the General public and road users on the need to apply caution on the roads.
“Our patrol operations have been enhanced; you will see them enforcing traffic rules and regulations.
“We have standby teams in all corners, ready to intervene in case of road crashes. However, we have reduced the number of road crashes.
The Commander warned drivers, passengers especially against night journeys due to its high risks while driving at night.
“Let me use this opportunity to caution passengers and other road users to avoid night journeys”, the commander said. “Plan your trips early enough to avoid rush hour. A lot of things transpire at nights. Be patient while driving, even in traffic congestions, maintain discipline and do not jump queues”.
Kumapayi also warned drivers to posses valid drivers’ licence and other relevant vehicle documents to avoid embarrassment that can attract the wrath of the law.
