One man identified as Roger Hedgpeth, 25, was arrested outside the White House over alleged carrying a knife to kill president Trump, Business Insider reports.
Police department said the suspect was nabbed on Saturday afternoon on a charge of threat to assassinate U.S President, Donald Trump.
The suspect, Hedgpeth was accused for saying that he was there to “assassinate” President Donald Trump and “I have a knife to do it with”, when he approached a Secret Service officer who was patrolling outside the White House.
The authority said that the suspect had 3 1/2-inch knife in a sheath and an empty pistol holster when he was arrested.
The suspect has been was taken into custody. He was also taken to a hospital for a mental health check up.
It was learnt that White House security has been ramped up in recent years after some cases of sevral people who successfully jumped over the iron fence surrounding the grounds, with one man headed into the presidential residence in a 2014 for raid.
This incident led U.S to had built higher fencing and more barriers in high-traffic areas for tourists security.
