Nigeria will begin the construction of railway wagon plant.
Minister of Transportation, ChibuikeAmaechi will accompany Vice President Prof. Osibanjo to the groundbreaking ceremony of the planned Railway Wagon assembly plant in Kajola, Ogun State on Friday, November 8.
Federal government had already signed an agreement with the Chinese rail contractor CCECC in March 2018 to establish the Wagon Assembly in the country
According to the presidency, “the project will serve as a catalyst for national economic growth & development as enshrined in federal government’s Economic Recovery & Growth Plan (ERGP), & boost local capacity for production of materials & products underpinned by Presidential Exec Order No. 5”.
The plant is expected to employ at least five thousand Nigerians After completion.
FG said the capacity of the plant will be expanded to include, in the first phase, assembly of coaches and locomotives as demand increase for rolling stocks.
The establishment of the plant will help to produce some of the Wagons to be used on the Lagos—Ibadan, Abuja—Kaduna, Itakpe—Warri Rail operations, and for other railway operators in Nigeria.
