Femi-Fani Kayode has revealed how police and military men invaded and attacked the home of Lawyer to IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Kayode explained that he was in the house of Kanu’s Lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor on Sunday before the incident occurred in the following day.
The statement reads “This is the country home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor in Ifite, Anambra. He is my friend, brother and lawyer and he is IPOB’s and Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer.
“I was in this house on sunday afternoon after attending the Thanksgiving Service for his brothers burial which took place last wednesday.
“On sunday we had lunch in the house after which he took me on a tour of his new house which he had just finished building, which he was about to move into and which was located right next to the old one. I left for Lagos later in the afternoon.
“The following morning, which was monday, a joint force comprising of the military and the police stormed both his old house and the new one, killed 4 people and burnt both houses to the ground.
“In what can only be described as a savage, vicious and unprovoked attack and the unrestrained and relentless execution and implementation of an archaic and barbaric scortched earth policy, they also burnt down ALL the surrounding houses in the neighbourhood and community and all the shops and commercial buildings, including the home of Ejiofor’s late brother who was buried on thursday and who was an Anglican priest.
“Unfortunately things degenerated even further when IPOB youths responded to the attack and killed two mobile policemen, burning them alive in their Hillux security vehicle.
“I have to say that IPOB has categorically denied that ANY mobile policemen were killed by their members but if the allegation is true then it is deeply regrettable just as was the murder of the 4 IPOB youths that had been killed in the raid by the police earlier in the day.
“Whichever way you look at it one thing is clear: the behaviour of the police and the joint force was brutal, disproportionate, provocative, heartless and barbaric and I wholeheartedly condemn it.
This is all the more so because they attacked a community that was stil in mourning and that had just buried Ifeanyi Ejiofor’s brother who was not only a reverred Anglican priest but also one of their leading and most respected community leaders.
“The widow and 6 young children of the deceased priest, who I met on sunday, were also brutalised and traumatised in the attack by the police and military. This is wrong. It is evil. It is wicked. It is heartless. It is cruel. I am utterly disgusted that such an outrage can be committed against such a young, defenceless and mourning family.
“Once again I call for peace and restraint in this matter but I also call on the Anambra state Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to bring those that committed this atrocity and those who ordered it to justice.
