The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele has said that issue of insurgency, banditry and kidnapping will disappear in Nigeria if the border closure remained till next two years.
CBN Governor made this statement on Friday while giving his lecture titled “The Role of Monetary Policy towards Economic Growth in Nigeria,” at the first Convocation Lecture of Edo University, Iyamho, Auchi, Edo state.
Emefiele boosted that the border closure would be pivotal in eradicating and solving all security issues confronting the nation and reducing involvement in yahoo-yahoo business.
“I can tell you that if our borders remain closed for two years, the issue of ‘Boko Haram’, Kidnapping, Banditry and ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’ will stop.
“CBN will promote this policy by making sure that we produce what we consume and eat what we produce”.
Governor Emefiele hinted that the nation will benefit from the border closure by producing locally and importing the products. He also encouraged youth to go into agricultural business.
“We no longer want what they are importing to our country because we can produce them and CBN will do everything possible to promote domestic products”.
