2019 U17 World Cup: Buhari sends message to Nigeria Golden Eaglets

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory and warm message to Nigeria under 17 Eagles who are participating in the 2017 FIFA world cup in Brazil.

Golden Eaglets played their first match on Saturday night as they defeated Hungary by 4:2. Nigeria came back from 1:2 down in the 2nd half to score 3 goals within 8 minutes towards the end of the game. Nigeria are in group B with Ecuador, Hungary and Australia.

The president, on his statement, said he was proud with the guys for their wonderful performance. He added that the team is determined to win the tournament

“Our opening game in Brazil last night was a wonderful display that I am very proud of. Congratulations to the Golden Eaglets! I have no doubt in my mind that they are determined to win the Under 17 World Cup for an unparalleled sixth time.

“I have followed the journey leading to their arrival in Brazil; have noted the determination and confidence throughout their preparations. This is the true, resilient Nigerian spirit at work. I will personally be monitoring their progress in the competition”, Buhari said.

The Golden Eaglets are hoping to get big gifts from President Buhari if they win the competition.

Nigeria will be playing their second game against Ecuador on Tuesday at 21:00 GMT (9pm).
